Pre-training Review

The Pre-Training Review (PTR) will be conducted prior to enrolment on your course of studies to ensure that the training and assessment provided by Ideal International Institute is able to meet the students’ individual needs. Students are required to fill out the PTR form and submit it along with the application form.

Ideal International Institute will review the student’s current competencies, student needs, English level, support requirements and oral communication skills, to enrol them in the most appropriate course to achieve their intended outcomes.

English Language Requirements for International students.

International students applying for this course either off-shore or on-shore will require either a minimum IELTS test score of 6.0 or equivalent for direct entry into a VET course;

or, IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent with an ELICOS course (up to 10 weeks) to be taken before the course;

or, IELTS score of 5.0 or equivalent with an ELICOS course (up to 20 weeks) to be taken before the course;

(Note: Results older than two years are not acceptable)

or, Oxford Placement test with score 61 in each component or higher

Score Guide: Average test score of 61 in each component or higher in Oxford placement test is equivalent to IELTS 6.0.

Academic Requirements

To enter the course applicants should have successfully completed year 12 or secondary studies in applicant’s home country equivalent to Australian senior secondary school examination.

Mature Age students will also be considered without the minimum education requirements considering they have relevant work experience within the chosen area of study and a demonstrated capacity to meet the course requirements. A minimum of 2 years’ experience would normally be expected; however, each case will be reviewed individually with relevant work experience evidence in the form of an employment reference letter on company letterhead, work samples and curriculum vitae submitted will be considered. Such learner will be accessed for possible RPL opportunities, and their course duration and volume of learning will be adjusted accordingly, if any RPL is granted.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy test (LLN)

Students undertaking this course must possess sound Language Literacy and Numeracy skills since it requires them to do calculations, prepare reports, review market requirements, etc. To determine this, students wanting to study at RBA are required to undertake LLN test prior to the commencement of the course.  Based on the test outcome, students may be identified as requiring internal support and/or external support. 

LLN tests will be conducted on campus by using an ACSF mapped online LLN assessment tool - LLN Robot under the supervision of qualified LLN Trainer/Assessor. Students are required to undertake a language, literacy, and numeracy test (LLN) according to the following qualification:

Computer literacy requirements

Students enrolling into this course at Ideal International Institute must have basic computer skills. Students are required to fill in the questions related to computer and internet skills in the Pre-Training Review form provided along with the application form.

Materials and Equipment Required

The institute will provide access to computers/laptops with required resources during classroom hours. However, to work on assignments and tasks for self-study all leaners are expected to have access to a laptop or computer with the Windows 7 operating system or higher. Students must have an active email address for communication and be contactable by phone (mobile or landline) and by mail (postal address). All learners are expected to have access to MS office applications such as Microsoft Word, an email platform.

Learners will be required to have a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kit for cabinet making. This will include enclosed steel-capped safety boots (heavy leather uppers and heavy-duty soles that conform to AS2210), clear protective safety glasses (meeting Australian standards), a safety vest (neon/ glowing), protective gloves, earmuffs (that conform to the Australian Standard AS 1269 or 1270), working uniform or protective clothing (long heavy cotton drill trousers and cotton drill shirt), dust masks and hard hat. This PPE kit will be required to enter the workshop and to be able to undertake training effectively. Physical Abilities Requirements

Learners are expected to have physical abilities and manual handling as part of this qualification which includes:

• Ability to be on your feet for extended periods of time, both walking and standing, bending, and maintaining consistent physical performance throughout your day
• Ability to work in various environments (e.g., changing conditions, both hot and cool conditions, low light, indoors/outdoors)
• Capacity to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (e.g., masks when preparing cabinets, assembling furnishing components)
• Fine motor skills, including the ability to undertake precisely coordinated movements of the hands (e.g., pushing, pressing, turning, pinching, squeezing, tensioning).
• Manual handling techniques (e.g., lifting, carrying, pulling, pushing etc.)
• Manually operated machinery and equipment (e.g., hand tools, portable electric tools)
• Tolerance to dust, strong machinery noise, wooden particles, and chemicals.
